**Jalahalli, Oct. 12:** We welcome the state government's decision to conduct the long-pending Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections. However, injustice has once again been done to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community by not providing SC reservation to the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district, alleged Hanumanthappa Mannapuri, Raichur District President of the Madiga Reservation Struggle Committee (M.R.H.S.).
He expressed dissatisfaction, stating that over the past 20 years, reservation in the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency has been provided to various communities, whose candidates have been elected as members. However, the failure to provide reservation to the Scheduled Caste community so far is unfortunate, he said.
Although the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency has a significant number of SC voters, the community has been neglected in terms of political opportunities and representation. There was a strong expectation that the constituency would receive SC reservation this time. However, the recently announced reservation list issued by the state government has once again failed to provide an opportunity to the SC community, amounting to injustice, he alleged.
Therefore, Hanumanthappa Mannapuri urged District Commissioner Purvika Madam, who is also the District Election Officer for the Zilla Panchayat elections, to conduct a comprehensive review of the communities that have been given reservation in the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency of Devadurga taluk over the past 20 years.
He further demanded that the reservation allocation be reviewed in accordance with the applicable rules and legal criteria to ensure fairness and provide the Scheduled Caste community with its rightful representation.
He also stated that the Raichur District Committee of the Madiga Reservation Struggle Committee (M.R.H.S.) had submitted a memorandum to the District Election Officer, demanding SC reservation for the Jalahalli Zilla Panchayat constituency.
