A collared elephant that left Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has traveled more than 100 km and is now roaming near Darraha Gate, prompting alerts from forest, railway and electricity departments.
The forest department reported that a male elephant fitted with a tracking collar exited the protected area of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and has been on the move for five consecutive days.
By the fifth day, the animal was sighted in the dense forest surrounding Darraha Gate, having covered a distance exceeding 100 kilometres since its departure.
Officials from the forest, railway and electricity sectors have been placed on high alert, monitoring the elephant's trajectory to prevent any potential human‑wildlife conflict or damage to infrastructure.
The coordinated surveillance includes aerial checks and ground patrols, aiming to guide the elephant back to its natural habitat while ensuring safety for nearby villages and railway lines.
Authorities continue to update the public on the elephant's location and advise caution in the affected forest zones.
