Following the recent building collapse in Anjaiah Nagar, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation demolished 17 illegal constructions, citing safety concerns.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out a demolition drive on Wednesday, targeting 17 structures that were built without proper approvals in Anjaiah Nagar, Hyderabad. The operation was launched after a residential building in the area partially collapsed, prompting authorities to reassess the safety of other illegal constructions.

Officials said the demolished buildings were identified through routine inspections and were found to be in violation of the city's building codes and zoning regulations. The GHMC team used heavy machinery to bring down the structures, ensuring that nearby residents were evacuated and safety perimeters were maintained.

The demolition underscores the municipal body's commitment to enforcing construction norms and preventing further tragedies. Local residents expressed relief that the illegal buildings have been removed, while city officials warned that similar actions will be taken against any other unauthorised structures.

The GHMC has urged property owners to regularise their premises and obtain the necessary clearances to avoid future punitive measures.
