Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari inaugurated a new Hindustan Petroleum Limited (HPL) refinery unit in Haldia, West Bengal, and said the state aims to become a leading investment destination.

West Bengal's Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari presided over the inauguration of Hindustan Petroleum Limited's latest plant in the port city of Haldia on Thursday. The ceremony marked the addition of a modern refining and storage facility designed to boost the state's fuel processing capacity.

Adhikari told reporters that the new HPL unit underscores West Bengal's commitment to attracting large‑scale private investment and positioning the state as a top destination for industrial growth. He highlighted recent policy reforms and incentives aimed at simplifying approvals and improving infrastructure.

The HPL plant, part of the company's expansion strategy, is expected to create several hundred jobs and increase the availability of petroleum products in the region, reducing reliance on imports. State officials said the project aligns with the broader goal of making West Bengal a competitive hub for manufacturing and logistics.

Analysts view the development as a positive signal for the state's business climate, noting that improved energy infrastructure can spur further investments across sectors such as chemicals, textiles and automotive manufacturing.
