During the closing ceremony of Wildlife Conservation Week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will set two cheetahs free in the open at Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Sagar on October 7.
On October 7, the closing ceremony of Wildlife Conservation Week will be held at Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is scheduled to release two cheetahs into the reserve's open habitat.
The release forms part of the state’s cheetah re‑introduction programme, aimed at establishing a viable population of the endangered species in central India. Forest Department officials have prepared a soft‑release enclosure where the animals will acclimatise before full freedom.
The event highlights the government’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and aligns with similar releases under the National Cheetah Conservation Programme. Authorities expect the cheetahs to adapt to the semi‑arid terrain of the reserve, which already supports a healthy tiger population.
Local wildlife enthusiasts and media are invited to witness the ceremony, which will also feature public awareness activities on wildlife protection.
