Assam's chief minister highlighted that the recent peace accord has accelerated infrastructure and welfare projects in the Karbi Anglong district.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday that the peace accord signed with insurgent groups has markedly accelerated development activities in the Karbi Anglong district. He emphasized that the newfound stability is allowing the state government to implement projects that were previously stalled due to security concerns.
According to the minister, the administration is now able to push forward with infrastructure upgrades, including road connectivity, as well as initiatives in education and health services. He noted that several schools and primary health centres are slated for renovation, aiming to improve access for remote tribal communities.
The peace accord, concluded earlier this year, brought an end to decades‑long insurgency in the hilly region. By removing the threat of violence, the government can allocate resources directly to development rather than security operations.
Sarma concluded by urging local stakeholders to cooperate with the implementation agencies, assuring that the state will continue to prioritize inclusive growth in Karbi Anglong as a model for other conflict‑affected areas.
