CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauds Srimanta Sankardev’s role in India’s cultural unity on Tirobhav Tithi

Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressed devotees on Tirobhav Tithi, emphasizing the lasting impact of 15th‑century saint‑reformer Srimanta Sankardev on India’s cultural fabric. He noted that Sankardev’s literary, musical and theatrical innovations not only unified diverse communities within Assam but also resonated across the subcontinent, fostering a shared cultural identity.

Sankardev, revered for founding the Neo‑Vaishnavite movement, introduced Borgeet, Ankiya Naat and the Sattriya dance form, which have become integral to India’s artistic heritage.
