Chief Justice Surya Kant presented a proposal titled “Nyaya Setu” that seeks to establish a seamless mechanism for the exchange of Supreme Court judgments among the BRICS+ bloc. The plan envisions a shared digital repository that would house landmark decisions from the eleven legal systems represented in the group, allowing courts to reference each other's jurisprudence directly.
A key component of the initiative is a judicial fellowship program designed to send young judges from India and partner nations to each other's courts for short‑term attachments. The fellowship aims to foster cross‑learning of procedural best practices and to build mutual confidence among the participating judiciaries.
By linking diverse legal traditions, the proposal argues that greater judicial cooperation can reinforce the rule of law, reduce legal uncertainty in cross‑border trade, and ultimately support economic growth across the BRICS+ economies. The CJI emphasized that “justice knows no borders” and urged member states to adopt the framework promptly.
