A toddler was taken from his aunt in Khagaria under the pretext of delivering clothes and later sold for Rs 1.8 lakh. The child's maternal uncle and two accomplices have been taken into custody.
Police in Khagaria district, Bihar, have uncovered a shocking case in which a one‑year‑old child was taken from his aunt after she was asked to deliver clothing. The infant was then handed over to his maternal uncle, who arranged a sale of the child for a sum of Rs 1.8 lakh.
Investigators say the uncle, identified as the child's close relative, negotiated the transaction with an unnamed buyer and received the payment before the child was handed over. The transaction was reportedly completed within a month and a half after the initial abduction.
Following a complaint lodged by the child's aunt, local authorities launched an operation that resulted in the arrest of the uncle along with two other individuals suspected of facilitating the sale. All three have been placed in custody and are being interrogated for further details.
The case has drawn attention to the prevalence of child trafficking in rural Bihar and prompted the district police to issue a warning to the community, urging vigilance and immediate reporting of any suspicious activity involving children.
