Madhya Pradesh's chief administrative officer, Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal, has issued a strict seven‑day deadline to all district collectors for completing the Swamitva ownership scheme. The directive comes after officials reported that the land‑recording work has lagged in several districts, undermining the government's goal of creating transparent property records.
Barnwal stated that any collector who fails to meet the target will face removal from office, emphasizing that the Swamitva programme is critical for improving revenue collection and reducing land‑related disputes. The ultimatum underscores a broader push to curb corruption and inefficiency within the state's revenue department.
The Swamitva scheme, launched by the central government, aims to map every parcel of land using satellite imagery and assign ownership certificates to rightful owners.
