A woman from Chhattisgarh, lured by a promised job in Bangkok, was found to have been held captive in a Yanmar facility for 17 months, authorities said.
Police in Chhattisgarh disclosed that a 28‑year‑old woman, who had travelled to Bangkok in 2022 after being promised a well‑paid job, was discovered to have been held captive in a Yanmar facility for 17 months. The woman was rescued in early October after a joint operation by Indian and Thai authorities.
According to the investigation, traffickers used a bogus recruitment agency to lure the victim with promises of employment in the hospitality sector. Upon arrival in Thailand, she was confined, forced to work under threat, and prevented from contacting her family.
The rescued victim is now receiving medical and psychological care, while the police have filed a human‑trafficking case against the suspects. Officials warned that similar scams continue to target job‑seekers from eastern Indian states and urged the public to verify employment offers before travelling abroad.
