On 2 October, the Chhattisgarh government announced that six of its prisons will be opened on Gandhi Jayanti, allowing inmates to participate in daytime work programs.
The move is part of a broader rehabilitation strategy aimed at giving prisoners a chance to engage in productive activities during daylight hours.
Officials say the initiative will help inmates acquire skills and reduce recidivism, while also easing the operational load on prison staff.
