The Chhattisgarh government has announced a proposal that all renewable energy projects exceeding 5 MW must incorporate battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The state cabinet of Chhattisgarh has put forward a draft policy that would require every renewable energy project with a capacity greater than 5 megawatts to install a battery energy storage system (BESS). The move aims to strengthen grid reliability and mitigate the intermittency inherent in solar and wind generation.
Officials said the mandatory BESS provision aligns with the state's broader clean‑energy goals and the central government's push for greater storage capacity across India. By integrating storage, the state expects to smooth power supply, reduce curtailment, and make renewable output more dispatchable.
