The state government of Chhattisgarh has approved two new railway lines as part of a Rs 57,000 crore infrastructure programme, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and freight movement.
Chhattisgarh’s railway network is set to expand with the sanction of two new lines, a move announced by the state’s transport department. The projects are incorporated into a broader Rs 57,000 crore infrastructure push that seeks to modernise rail corridors, reduce transit times and boost economic activity across the state.
The two lines will link key industrial and mineral zones, facilitating smoother movement of steel, coal and agricultural produce. Officials expect the enhanced connectivity to attract further private investment and generate employment in construction and ancillary services.
Funding for the works will be sourced from a mix of central government allocations, state budget provisions and public‑private partnership arrangements. Detailed project reports are being prepared, with construction slated to begin in the next fiscal year, subject to clearances and land acquisition.
Railway officials have indicated that the new routes will also improve passenger services, offering faster travel options between major towns. The initiative aligns with the national goal of expanding the railway network to support India’s growing logistics demand.
Stakeholders, including local business chambers, have welcomed the announcement, citing potential gains in trade efficiency and regional development. Monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure timely execution and adherence to quality standards.
