Chhattisgarh Revives Blackbuck Population After Five Decades

The state’s wildlife department has announced that blackbucks, which had vanished from Chhattisgarh’s forests for half a century, are now reappearing in the Bastar region. The reintroduction was part of a coordinated breeding and release program that began several years ago. Early monitoring shows a steady increase in numbers, with several herds observed grazing in protected areas. Conservationists say the success underscores the effectiveness of targeted habitat restoration and anti‑poaching measures.
