An 8.5‑kg python found in Chhattisgarh with a 200‑gram tumour in its mouth was rescued and underwent a two‑hour surgery.
A python weighing 8.5 kilograms was rescued from a rural area in Chhattisgarh after local wildlife officials discovered a 200‑gram tumour lodged in its mouth. The snake was carefully captured and transported to a veterinary facility for immediate examination.
Veterinary surgeons confirmed the mass was benign but posed a risk of infection and impaired feeding. The team planned a surgical removal to prevent further complications.
The operation lasted just over two hours, during which the tumour was excised and the snake was monitored for any adverse reactions. Post‑operative care included antibiotics and a controlled diet to aid recovery.
The python is currently stable and being observed in a quarantine enclosure. Authorities plan to release it back into its natural habitat once it has fully recovered.
