The Chhattisgarh government has announced a ban on single‑use plastic within all tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, imposing hefty fines for violations.

The state government of Chhattisgarh issued an order prohibiting the manufacture, sale and use of plastic items inside the boundaries of its tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries. The directive applies to all forms of single‑use plastic, including bags, bottles and packaging, with the aim of eliminating litter that threatens the habitat of endangered species.

Authorities have warned that non‑compliance will attract stiff penalties, including substantial fines and possible seizure of the prohibited items. Forest officials will conduct regular inspections and set up monitoring checkpoints at entry points to the protected areas.

The move aligns with broader conservation efforts across India to safeguard tiger populations and reduce plastic pollution in ecologically sensitive zones. State officials said the ban is expected to improve the cleanliness of the reserves, enhance visitor experience and contribute to the long‑term health of the region’s wildlife.
