The state government has repurposed a decommissioned anti‑Maoist security base into hostels for tribal families, aiming to improve housing and livelihood.
The Chhattisgarh government announced that a former anti‑Maoist security installation in a remote part of the state will be dismantled and rebuilt as a series of hostels for tribal families.
The move comes after a noticeable decline in Maoist activity, allowing authorities to shift resources from security to development. Officials say the hostels will provide safe, sanitary accommodation for displaced tribal workers and their children.
The conversion is part of a broader rehabilitation scheme that includes skill‑training centres and livelihood support, intended to encourage tribal communities to settle permanently and reduce the lure of insurgent groups.
Funded by the state’s tribal‑welfare budget, the project is slated for completion by the end of the fiscal year, with local NGOs welcoming the initiative as a step toward better housing in remote districts.
