The Chhattisgarh government has inaugurated the country's longest road constructed using steel waste, showcasing a new recycling‑driven infrastructure model.
The state government of Chhattisgarh officially opened a road built entirely from processed steel waste on September 16. Officials described the stretch as the longest steel‑waste road in India, marking a milestone in sustainable infrastructure.
The project repurposes scrap metal generated by local steel plants and other industrial units, converting it into a durable road‑base material. By diverting this waste from landfills, the initiative aims to reduce environmental pressure while cutting construction costs.
State authorities said the road will initially serve traffic between two rural hubs, improving connectivity for nearby villages. They also indicated that the technology could be replicated in other states seeking cost‑effective, eco‑friendly road solutions.
The inauguration was attended by the chief minister and senior officials from the Public Works Department, who highlighted the alignment of the project with the Swachh Bharat and Make in India missions.
