The chief minister of Chhattisgarh arrived in Bhubaneswar and announced that the long‑standing Mahanadi water‑sharing dispute with Odisha has been settled.

Chhattisgarh's chief minister landed in Bhubaneswar on Monday, meeting senior officials of the Odisha government shortly after arrival. The visit, aimed at reviewing inter‑state cooperation, focused on the contentious Mahanadi river water‑sharing issue that has lingered for years.
During a joint press briefing, the chief minister declared that the Mahanadi dispute is no longer a point of contention, citing recent accords that define water allocation and joint management mechanisms. He said the agreement reflects a spirit of cooperation and will benefit farmers and industries in both states.
He added that the resolution paves the way for collaborative projects, including irrigation schemes and hydro‑electric initiatives, which are expected to boost regional development. The chief minister urged both governments to continue dialogue on other shared resources.
The statement marks a shift from previous years, when the two states frequently clashed over water releases during dry periods. Stakeholders welcomed the development, viewing it as a step toward stable water governance in central India.
