Police in Karnataka have detained a Chennai-based pharmaceutical distributor for alleged involvement in a counterfeit drug racket.

Karnataka police announced the arrest of a pharmaceutical distributor headquartered in Chennai, linking him to a large-scale counterfeit drug operation that spanned multiple states. The suspect was taken into custody during a raid at a warehouse in Karnataka, where authorities seized a substantial quantity of falsified medicines.

Investigators said the seized drugs bore the branding of well‑known pharmaceutical companies but failed to meet regulatory standards, posing serious health risks to consumers. The operation is believed to have supplied these counterfeit products to pharmacies and clinics across the region.

Senior police officials confirmed that the case is part of a broader crackdown on illegal drug manufacturing and distribution networks. The arrested distributor will be presented before a magistrate within the stipulated time, and further interrogations are expected to uncover additional conspirators.

India's fight against counterfeit medicines has intensified in recent years, with the government urging stricter enforcement of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The latest arrest underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the infiltration of fake drugs into the market.
