Cheetahs have been moved from Kuno National Park to the Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, establishing their third habitat in the state. The translocation aims to support the species' conservation and genetic diversity.
The relocation was carried out by wildlife officials as part of India's ongoing cheetah reintroduction programme. Animals were transported from Kuno National Park in Sheopur district to the Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Officials said the move is intended to give the cheetahs a new range that offers suitable prey base and habitat conditions. It also helps reduce pressure on the existing sites and encourages natural dispersal.
This marks the third location within Madhya Pradesh where cheetahs have been released since the project's inception. Authorities continue to monitor the animals' health and adaptation to their new surroundings.
