A cheetah that left Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh covered 150 km in 36 hours, reaching the Sarakheda forest of Guna district, prompting the forest department to issue an alert and begin capture operations.

The forest department confirmed that a cheetah, originally spotted in Kuno National Park, embarked on a 150‑kilometre trek across Madhya Pradesh’s central forest belt. Within 36 hours the animal entered the Sarakheda forest area of Fatehgarh in Guna district, a region that lies on the park’s western fringe.

Local officials immediately raised the alarm, notifying villages surrounding the forest about the predator’s presence. The department has deployed a team of wildlife experts and forest guards to monitor the cheetah’s movements and to set up safe capture measures.

Authorities emphasized that the operation aims to relocate the cheetah to its native habitat without harming the animal or nearby livestock. The alert remains active as teams continue to track the cheetah using radio collars and camera traps.

The incident underscores the challenges of managing reintroduced big cats in fragmented landscapes and highlights the need for coordinated vigilance among forest officials and local communities.
