A Kuno project cheetah, CCB-4, has entered the Baran forest area of Rajasthan, marking a significant step in the species’ reintroduction efforts.
A cheetah named CCB-4, part of the Kuno Project, was sighted entering the Baran forest area in Rajasthan on Thursday. The Kuno Project, a joint initiative between the Government of Rajasthan and the Wildlife Institute of India, aims to reintroduce cheetahs into their historic range in the state.
CCB-4, a male cheetah, was released into the Baran forest in February after a period of acclimatization in a controlled environment. The Baran forest, located in the Baran district, is one of the designated sites for the project’s reintroduction program.
Wildlife officials confirmed that the cheetah is adapting well to the new habitat and is being monitored closely through GPS tracking and regular field checks. The project’s success is seen as a milestone for conservation efforts in the region.
The Kuno Project’s reintroduction plan involves gradually expanding the cheetah’s range across Rajasthan, with the ultimate goal of establishing a self-sustaining population in the state’s natural ecosystems.
