The Central Government Health Scheme now includes widowed and divorced daughters as dependents following the death of their parents, broadening access to medical benefits for more families.
The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) provides health insurance for central government employees and pensioners. In a recent policy update, the scheme now allows widowed and divorced daughters to be counted as dependents after the death of their parents. This expansion means that these families can access the same medical benefits, including hospitalization and treatment, that were previously available only to married daughters. The change was announced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and does not alter existing premium rates.
