The Union government has asked the Haryana administration to accelerate the public listing of four state-owned power utilities, aiming to raise capital and improve sector efficiency.

The central government, through the Ministry of Power, has formally requested the Haryana state government to expedite the process of listing four of its state‑run power generation and distribution companies on the stock exchanges.
The move is intended to unlock private investment, improve corporate governance and reduce the fiscal burden on the state, officials said. The four utilities, which include Haryana Power Generation Corporation and others, are slated for an initial public offering within the next few months, subject to regulatory approvals.
Haryana’s finance department has been instructed to coordinate with the Securities and Exchange Board of India and the stock exchanges to fast‑track the necessary clearances. The central government expects the listings to enhance transparency and provide a market‑driven valuation for the assets.
Analysts note that successful listings could set a precedent for other states with similar public sector power assets, potentially accelerating reforms across the power sector nationwide.
