The Union government has transferred Rs 688 crore to Meghalaya as an advance tax devolution to support the upcoming festive period.

New Delhi – The Centre has disbursed an advance tax devolution of Rs 688 crore to the state of Meghalaya ahead of the festive season. The payment is part of the regular fiscal transfer mechanism that allocates central resources to states for development and welfare programmes. Officials said the funds will be used by the state government to finance seasonal subsidies, infrastructure projects and other public‑service initiatives that typically see higher demand during festivals. The advance is intended to smooth cash‑flow constraints and ensure that essential schemes such as school mid‑day meals, health camps and road repairs can continue without delay. Meghalaya’s finance department confirmed receipt of the amount and will release it to relevant departments in the coming days.
