The Union Government has sanctioned 320 new postgraduate medical seats for Himachal Pradesh and approved a Rs 415 crore grant to enhance medical education infrastructure.
In a move to strengthen medical education in the northern state, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that 320 new postgraduate medical seats will be added to Himachal Pradesh's existing medical colleges.
Alongside the seat expansion, the government has approved a grant of Rs 415 crore, earmarked for upgrading infrastructure, faculty recruitment and research facilities.
The decision comes as part of a broader national initiative to increase medical training capacity and address the shortage of doctors in rural areas.
State health officials have welcomed the announcement, noting that the additional seats will provide more opportunities for local students and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The funding is expected to be disbursed over the next fiscal year, with the first batch of new seats slated to commence in the 2025-26 academic session.
