The Union government has appointed a senior investigative team to look into the death of a cheetah that suffered firearm pellet injuries in M.
New Delhi – The central government has constituted a high‑level committee to investigate the recent death of a cheetah that was found with firearm pellet wounds in the region identified only as “M”.
Preliminary reports indicate that the animal sustained multiple pellet injuries, which are believed to be the direct cause of its demise. Wildlife officials discovered the carcass during routine monitoring and immediately notified the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The appointed team, comprising senior officials from the Ministry, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and veterinary experts, has been tasked with determining the circumstances of the shooting, identifying any illegal activity, and recommending measures to prevent similar incidents.
Authorities emphasized that the probe will also assess compliance with existing wildlife protection laws and could lead to stricter enforcement actions against poaching or unauthorized firearm use in protected areas.
