The Union government has ruled out establishing a new Indian Institute of Management in Hyderabad, confirming that Telangana will not get an additional IIM campus.
The Union Ministry of Education has officially rejected the proposal to set up a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus in Hyderabad, Telangana. The decision was communicated through a public statement, making it clear that the centre will not sanction the establishment of an additional IIM in the state.
IIMs are among India’s most prestigious management institutions, and several state governments have previously sought to host new campuses to expand higher‑education opportunities. The Hyderabad proposal was part of Telangana’s broader effort to attract premier educational infrastructure.
With the centre’s ruling out the campus, Telangana will continue to rely on its existing higher‑education institutions for management education. The state government has not indicated any immediate alternative plans following the centre’s decision.
