Centre, Assam and Nagaland sign historic energy‑security MoU, says Amit Shah

The Union government, together with the administrations of Assam and Nagaland, formalised a tripartite memorandum of understanding aimed at bolstering energy security across the Northeast. The agreement was signed today, marking the first coordinated effort of its kind between the three entities.

The MoU outlines joint actions to develop power infrastructure, improve transmission networks and explore renewable energy projects that can reduce regional power deficits. By pooling resources and expertise, the partners intend to create a more reliable and resilient electricity supply for households and industries in the region.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the pact as a "historic step" that will contribute significantly to India's overall energy security. He emphasized that such collaborative frameworks are essential for meeting the country's growing power demand while supporting sustainable development.

Implementation committees comprising officials from the Centre, Assam and Nagaland are slated to meet in the coming weeks to translate the MoU into concrete projects and timelines. The governments have pledged regular monitoring to ensure the initiatives deliver tangible benefits to the people of the Northeast.
