Centre approves Rs 4,000 crore highway projects for Goa

The Union government has cleared highway development projects worth Rs 4,000 crore in the state of Goa, aiming to improve connectivity and boost tourism.
New Delhi has given the green light to a package of highway projects in Goa valued at approximately Rs 4,000 crore. The approval, announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, includes widening of existing national highways and construction of new stretches to link key coastal and inland districts.
The funding is expected to be released in phases, with the central government covering a major share of the cost while the state government will contribute its portion as per the standard cost‑sharing formula. Project officials say the upgrades will reduce travel time between major tourist hubs such as Panaji, Margao and Vasco da Gama.
Infrastructure experts anticipate that the enhanced road network will not only improve freight movement but also stimulate economic activity in the tourism‑dependent state. The projects are slated to commence later this year, subject to land acquisition and environmental clearances.
The move aligns with the central government's broader push to strengthen India's road infrastructure under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, targeting better connectivity across the country.
