Centre Allocates ₹336.62 Crore to Meghalaya for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 FY27

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has approved a budget of ₹336.62 crore for the state of Meghalaya under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 for the fiscal year 2027. The allocation is intended to expand piped water supply to rural and underserved areas across the state. Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 focuses on ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for all households by 2030, building on the successes of the original mission. Meghalaya, with its hilly terrain and dispersed settlements, has historically faced challenges in delivering consistent water services. The new funds will support the construction of water treatment plants, pipelines, and community water management facilities, thereby reducing waterborne diseases and improving quality of life. Officials say the investment will also create employment opportunities during the construction phase and strengthen local capacity for water governance.
