The central government has moved to alert mode in Bihar after a partial rise in the Gandak River’s water level, while a control room remains operational.

The Union government has placed Bihar under flood alert after monitoring a modest increase in the Gandak River’s water level. While the rise has not yet triggered a major emergency, authorities have kept the flood control room fully operational to respond swiftly to any further escalation.

Following the severe flooding in neighboring Nepal, Home Minister Amit Shah telephoned the chief ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to obtain the latest situational reports and coordinate preparedness measures across state borders.

State disaster management teams are on standby, continuously tracking river levels and reinforcing embankments where needed. The alert mode enables rapid deployment of resources, ensuring that any sudden surge can be managed without delay.

Officials have emphasized that, although the immediate threat appears contained, the situation remains fluid, and residents are advised to stay informed through official channels.

The proactive stance reflects a broader effort to mitigate flood risks in the region, which has historically been vulnerable during the monsoon season.
