The Indian government has sanctioned ₹8,970 crore to upgrade the Guwahati–Tezpur stretch of National Highway 15, aiming to boost connectivity in Assam.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced that it has approved a budget of ₹8,970 crore for the Guwahati–Tezpur section of National Highway 15. The funding will be used to widen the road, strengthen bridges, and improve safety features along the corridor.

The upgrade is expected to cut travel time between the state’s capital, Guwahati, and the northern city of Tezpur, facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers. Improved connectivity is projected to stimulate local economies and support the growth of tourism and trade in the region.

The project will be executed in multiple phases, covering a total length of approximately 200 kilometres. Construction is slated to begin in the next fiscal year, with completion targeted by 2026.

Officials say the investment aligns with the government’s broader infrastructure push in the Northeast, aiming to integrate the area more closely with the rest of the country.
