The 2027 national census will commence population enumeration in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa starting December, officials said.

State officials in Lucknow, Chandigarh and Panaji have been briefed on logistics, training of field staff and the use of digital tablets to record responses. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate and provide accurate information to ensure a reliable census.
The census data will feed into policy planning, allocation of funds and representation in legislative bodies. The government has emphasized that the enumeration will be conducted in accordance with privacy safeguards and without any cost to respondents.
