The Central Bureau of Investigation has successfully extradited Sourabh Chandrakar, identified as the chief figure behind the Mahadev App, from Oman.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced that it has secured the extradition of Sourabh Chandrakar from the Sultanate of Oman. Chandrakar, described in Indian media as the kingpin behind the Mahadev mobile application, was handed over to Indian authorities after cooperation between the two governments.
Mahadev App, a platform that gained popularity for its entertainment and social features, has been under investigation for alleged financial fraud and money‑laundering activities. Law enforcement agencies allege that the app was used to siphon funds from users and channel them through a network of shell companies.
The extradition followed a formal request by the CBI, which was processed under the existing bilateral treaty on legal assistance. Omani officials confirmed that Chandrakar was detained, examined, and then transferred to New Delhi, where he will face interrogation and possible prosecution.
Indian officials said the operation underscores the CBI’s commitment to tackling cross‑border cyber‑crimes and sending a clear signal that financial offenders will be pursued irrespective of where they hide.
