The Central Bureau of Investigation has detained a railway official in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced the arrest of a railway official in Madhya Pradesh on charges of taking a bribe worth Rs 45,000. The official, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended during a raid conducted by CBI officers as part of an ongoing anti-corruption probe within the Indian Railways.

According to the agency, the alleged payment was made in exchange for facilitating certain administrative clearances that the official was in a position to influence. The CBI statement said that the evidence collected, including cash and related documents, substantiates the claim of illicit gratification.

The arrest underscores the central agency's intensified focus on curbing corruption in the railway sector, which has been flagged as a vulnerable area for graft. Officials from the Ministry of Railways have been directed to cooperate fully with the investigation.

No further details regarding possible co-accused or the next steps in the legal process have been released. The case will be forwarded to the appropriate court for trial, where the accused will have the opportunity to present a defence.
