Singapore‑based CapitaLand has inaugurated a data centre in Chennai, marking a key step in Tamil Nadu's intensified digital infrastructure push.
CapitaLand, the Singapore‑based real‑estate developer, officially opened a new data centre in Chennai on Thursday. The facility is part of the Tamil Nadu government's broader strategy to expand digital infrastructure and attract technology investments in the state.
The centre is expected to provide high‑capacity cloud and hosting services to businesses, startups and government agencies operating in South India. By bolstering data storage and processing capabilities, the project aims to support the state's ambition to become a regional hub for digital services.
State officials highlighted that the data centre aligns with recent policy measures aimed at improving connectivity, encouraging innovation and creating skilled jobs. CapitaLand said the Chennai site will complement its existing portfolio of data assets across Asia.
Industry analysts view the development as a signal that major global investors are confident in Tamil Nadu's market potential and regulatory environment. The centre is slated to become operational within the next few months, pending final testing and certification.
The inauguration underscores the growing convergence of real‑estate and technology sectors as Indian states intensify efforts to modernise their digital ecosystems.
