A beekeeping project launched in Canacona, Goa, seeks to produce 12,000 kilograms of honey each year, marking a significant push for local apiculture.

A new beekeeping initiative has been rolled out in the coastal taluka of Canacona, Goa, with a clear production goal of 12,000 kilograms of honey per year. The programme, announced by local authorities, is part of broader efforts to diversify agricultural income in the region.

The 12‑ton target reflects both the suitability of the local flora for nectar production and the ambition to position Canacona as a notable honey‑producing hub in the state. Beekeepers involved will receive training and support to adopt modern apiculture practices, aiming to boost yield and quality.

If the target is met, the initiative could generate additional revenue for small‑holder farmers, create ancillary jobs in processing and marketing, and contribute to pollination services that benefit surrounding crops. The project also aligns with environmental goals by promoting biodiversity through the maintenance of healthy bee colonies.
