CAG Report Highlights ₹1,214 Crore Irregularities in 30 Nagaland Cases

The Comptroller and Auditor General has flagged financial irregularities amounting to over ₹1,214 crore across 30 cases in Nagaland, noting that corrective action has been minimal.
The CAG’s report, tabled in the Nagaland legislative assembly, pointed out that ₹1,214 crore remained unaccounted for or improperly utilized in 30 distinct cases identified during audits conducted over the recent financial year. These cases span various government schemes and departments where funds were either misused or not properly documented.
Audit observations highlighted weak internal controls, delayed reconciliations, and a lack of timely follow‑up by the concerned authorities, which resulted in minimal remedial measures being taken so far. The report noted that despite the issuance of audit objections, action taken reports were either pending or inadequate.
The CAG has recommended that the Nagaland government strengthen its financial monitoring mechanisms, ensure timely submission of action taken reports, and fix responsibility on officials responsible for the lapses. It urged the state administration to adopt a more proactive approach to prevent recurrence of such financial irregularities.
