The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has published a detailed audit of the Himachal Pradesh state administration, pointing to a series of financial irregularities and lapses in accounting standards. The report notes that several schemes and departmental accounts lacked proper documentation, leading to potential misuse of public funds.
According to the CAG findings, the state’s expenditure monitoring mechanisms were found to be inadequate, with delayed reconciliations and insufficient internal audits. The audit also highlighted instances where budgetary allocations were not fully utilized, yet expenditures were recorded without supporting evidence.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which governs the state, responded by labeling the report as a political tool aimed at undermining the government's credibility. Party officials called for a swift corrective action plan and urged the state finance department to address the highlighted shortcomings.
