The Comptroller and Auditor General has highlighted that key amenities such as toilets, seating, dustbins and electronic boards are lacking at major stations including Mumbai Central, Howrah, Sealdah and New Delhi.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) released a report on Tuesday pointing out serious deficiencies in basic amenities at some of India’s busiest railway stations.

The audit found that stations such as Mumbai Central, Howrah, Sealdah and even New Delhi lack essential facilities. Reported shortages include the absence of adequate toilets, seating arrangements, dustbins and electronic information boards.

In addition to the lack of infrastructure, the CAG flagged the presence of E. coli bacteria in the drinking water supplied at several stations, raising concerns over passenger health and safety.

The audit calls on the Ministry of Railways to take immediate remedial action, including installing toilets, improving waste management and ensuring clean drinking water across all major stations.
