The Union Cabinet approved a ₹10,021 crore investment to extend a 540‑kilometre railway corridor that will connect Tamil Nadu with Telangana. The project is aimed at improving freight and passenger movement between the two states.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the project aligns with the government’s focus on expanding rail infrastructure to support economic growth. He added that the Ministry will work closely with state governments to ensure timely execution.
Construction is slated to begin in the next fiscal year, with completion targeted within the next five years, subject to land acquisition and other approvals.
