Brother‑sister duo arrested for posing as IAS officers, swindling Rs 9.8 lakh

A brother and sister were caught impersonating Indian Administrative Service officers and cheating victims of nearly Rs 9.8 lakh, authorities said.
The police have arrested a brother‑sister pair after uncovering that they were masquerading as Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. The duo allegedly used the fake credentials to approach individuals and businesses, presenting themselves as government officials with the power to expedite services.
Investigators say the pair collected a total of Rs 9.8 lakh from several victims by promising undue advantages, such as fast‑track clearances and preferential treatment in official matters. The money was obtained through direct cash payments and bank transfers, according to preliminary statements.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and that a detailed probe is underway to identify all affected parties and recover the misappropriated funds. No further arrests have been reported at this stage.
