A bridge in the Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh collapsed into the river early on. The failure sent a surge of water and debris downstream, depositing roughly five feet of mud inside several adjoining houses.
The force of the flow also carried away eight residential structures, which were reported to have been swept into the river.
