The Indian film industry is increasingly hiring intimacy coordinators to ensure safe and professional handling of physical scenes, reflecting a shift towards greater actor safety and professionalism.
The landscape of filmmaking in Bollywood is undergoing a significant professional shift as the industry moves towards standardizing the handling of intimate and physical scenes. With a growing number of actors taking on roles that require heightened physicality, there is a rising demand for specialized professionals who can oversee these sequences on set.
This trend marks a departure from previous practices where such scenes were often directed or managed without dedicated safety protocols. The introduction of intimacy coordinators aims to create a safer, more respectful, and transparent environment for all cast and crew members involved in the production of such content.
These coordinators act as intermediaries between the director, the actors, and the production team, ensuring that all physical interactions are consensual, choreographed, and aligned with the artistic vision while prioritizing the well-being of the performers. This development is seen as a positive step towards modernizing the industry's approach to on-set conduct.
As global film industries have already adopted these roles, Bollywood's embrace of intimacy coordinators signals a maturing industry that values the safety and dignity of its workforce. The move is expected to set a new benchmark for professional standards in Indian cinema.
