The remains of two soldiers who went missing in Arunachal Pradesh have been located after a two‑month search, officials said.
New Delhi, 2 Nov 2026 – After an intensive two‑month operation, security forces have recovered the mortal remains of two army personnel who went missing in Arunachal Pradesh. The search, coordinated by the Indian Army and local authorities, concluded with the discovery of the bodies in a remote area of the state, though the exact location has not been disclosed for security reasons.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, the soldiers were declared missing following an incident earlier this year while on a routine patrol in the region's hilly terrain. Their families were kept informed throughout the investigation, and the recovery brings closure to a prolonged period of uncertainty.
The army has launched a formal inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the disappearance. Senior officials emphasized that the operation underscores the armed forces' commitment to leave no soldier behind, even in the most challenging environments.
The recovered remains will be handed over to the respective families after identification procedures are completed. A dignified funeral with full military honors is expected to be arranged in accordance with standard protocols.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in India's northeastern frontier, where difficult geography and occasional insurgent activity complicate routine operations.
