In Alwar’s municipal elections, BJP candidate Sumanlata Aggarwal secured the mayoral post with 42 votes, defeating Congress’s Kamlesh Sharma who received 23 votes. BJP’s victory was aided by 13 independent and one other councilor’s support.
Sumanlata Aggarwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party was elected as the first mayor of Alwar Municipal Corporation after securing 42 votes in the council vote. The election, held on a Wednesday, saw her defeating Congress candidate Kamlesh Sharma, who polled 23 votes.
BJP’s win was reinforced by the backing of 13 independent councilors and an additional member from another party, giving the party a clear majority in the 66-member body. The result marks a significant gain for the party in the state’s local governance.
