Preliminary results show BJP candidate Devashish Sharma ahead in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by‑poll in Assam.
Preliminary vote counting from the Nagaon Lok Sabha by‑poll in Assam indicates that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Devashish Sharma, is currently in the lead. The by‑poll was necessitated by a vacancy in the constituency and has drawn attention from national parties.
Early tallies released by the Election Commission show Sharma ahead of his rivals, although the final result will be confirmed after all votes are counted. Competing candidates from the Congress and regional parties are reported to be trailing, but exact margins remain unavailable at this stage.
Analysts note that a BJP lead in Nagaon could reinforce the party's position in the state ahead of the next general elections, while opposition parties will be watching the final outcome closely.
